"In His Own Words"

"I was in my senior year at UC Davis when my girlfriend brought home a recipe for a "home fermented beverage". It was amazing that I could make alcohol at home but the drink itself was quite frightening. With great enthusiasm I began to research the subject of beer making (beer being my drink of choice) and discovered that I had been attending a university that was world renowned for its brewing program. I took every home brewing course I could and through them found out about a new brewing trade school that was being formed specializing in training for the microbrewery. The American Brewers Guild was opened by Dr. Michael Lewis in 1994 and I was in the first class. Having just received my bachelors from UCD and having intended to get a teaching credential, such a move was quite a departure for my family and friends. Since then I have never looked back. I married the girlfriend, and have worked in several exotic and award winning breweries, I could not imagine doing anything else for a living."



Brewmaster Mike Hall, not only majored in beer, (didn’t we all), but he has a masters degree from UC Davis to prove it. He gained a reputation, and many awards, for great beer while at the Oakdale Brewing Company. One taste of his terrific ales was enough to earn him the top brewing job at the Firehouse Brewery.

AWARDS
• While with El Toro the company received two golds and one silver at the G.A.B.F.

• While with Oakdale brewing Co. we have received seventeen certificates of merit,

• Three 3rd places and two 2nd place ribbons from the California State Fair.

• With the Firehouse brew pub, Mike received fifteen certificates of merit and two 3rd place ribbons. As well as, first place at the CA County fair.
